Auburn Council approves appointments, ratifies emergency declaration and authorizes airport aid

The Auburn City Council on Jan. 5 approved appointments to three advisory bodies, ratified a mayoral emergency proclamation tied to recent flooding and authorized airport funding including a Community Aviation Revitalization Board loan and Federal Aviation Administration grant agreements.
The council voted to appoint Drew Dixon, Patrice Edwards, Chad Perkins and Perry Shaw to the Auburn Arts Commission for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2028. "I move to approve the appointment of Drew Dixon, Patrice Edwards, Chad Perkins, and Perry Shaw," Deputy Mayor Tracy Taylor said when moving the motion; Council Member Baldwin seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
Council reappointed Bob Fraser to the Auburn Lodging Tax Advisory Committee for a three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2028, and approved the appointment of Maddie Lindsay and the reappointment of Malia Dale to the Auburn Tourism Board for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2028.
On formal actions, council adopted Resolution 5883 to ratify and confirm a mayoral proclamation of emergency issued Dec. 9, 2025. Council Member Sturgis moved adoption and Council Member Amer seconded; members praised city directors and emergency staff for their response during the recent flooding. "I just want to take a second and give my deep appreciation to all of our directors and all of our staff," Council Member Baldwin said, thanking personnel who staffed the emergency operations center and shelters.
The council also adopted Resolution 5884, authorizing the mayor to accept an initial loan offer from the Community Aviation Revitalization Board (CARB) and execute a loan agreement to fund closure/enclosure work on open hangars at the Auburn Airport. Council Member Taylor explained the resolution allows the mayor to accept the loan offer and Council Member Baldwin seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Finally, council adopted Resolution 5885, authorizing the mayor and city clerk to execute Federal Aviation Administration grant agreements for project CP2518, a T-hangar upgrade program at the Auburn Airport. Council Member Baldwin noted a roughly 15-year waiting list for closed hangars and said the grant would help address demand; Council Member Raikes seconded and the resolution passed.
