Mayor Dylan Rumrill and City Manager Max Royal reviewed the city’s recent accomplishments Monday and urged residents to attend the mayor’s final meeting of his term at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
City Manager Max Royal highlighted recent development and public-works projects, saying, "Well, of course, number 1, not really the city, but the public sector got Publix finally built." He listed other work completed over the past year, including "road work, paving, ditch cleaning, pond clearing, drainage related work, those kinds of things."
The conversation also turned to funding and next year’s outlook. Mayor Rumrill said state funding had arrived, noting, "We've money came in from Tallahassee and we're just, you know, cooking with gas." Royal cautioned that actions by the state legislature on property taxes will determine what the city can do next year: if the legislature leaves local taxing authority unchanged, he said it will be "business as usual;" if the legislature limits property-tax authority, the city will need to "adjust and cope the best we can."
Rumrill praised city finance staff, singling out CFO Patty for her work, and reiterated the public is welcome at the 6:00 p.m. meeting tonight, which he said will mark the end of his term. The briefing closed with both officials exchanging thanks and confirming the evening meeting.
The city did not take any formal votes in the briefing; the next procedural step is the scheduled 6:00 p.m. meeting where the mayor said his term will end.
