Board signs three‑party NCDOT encroachment agreement for Bent River subdivision

The Alexander County Board of Commissioners approved a three‑party encroachment agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation that will allow Town Creek Real Estate Investments to extend water and sewer services for the Bent River subdivision.
County attorney Ben Falconberry said the agreement authorizes utility work within the DOT right of way, including an 8‑inch ductile iron water line bored under Rink Dam Road and a sewer crossing; once installations are approved by NCDOT and the City of Hickory the utilities are typically dedicated to the county for ongoing maintenance. Engineer Dan Shevaldine said no work has been installed yet and that the agreement is the last DOT step; the approved subdivision plan contemplates 87 lots and the sewer will be routed via an easement across private property.
A commissioner moved to approve the agreement as presented; the motion was seconded and carried.
