Plan Commission staff told commissioners on Jan. 5 that work on the Village of Cross Plains comprehensive plan—begun in 2024—will move to committee review and public outreach, with a target to complete adoption in 2027 and have the plan in place by 2028.
An unidentified staff speaker summarized the process and packet materials: chapters already were updated, survey results were included in the meeting packet, and staff proposes sending the draft to trustees and relevant committees for targeted review. "We've been working on this since 2024," the speaker said, and urged commissioners to send chapter-specific comments back by a proposed Sept. 1 deadline to allow committee review and integration during the 2027 budget cycle.
Staff said the plan would be used to seek funding during the 2027 budget for a public-education effort, coordinated with Sonia's group, and that after committee input and community meetings staff would finalize a report for consideration and adoption by the Village Board. Commissioners agreed this sequencing would allow the village to replace the current plan when it expires in 2028.
Next steps: staff will circulate the draft to trustees and committees, committees will return feedback by Sept. 1 if possible, and staff will pursue budget authority to fund public education and outreach for early 2027.
