Craven County commissioners approved a series of routine and infrastructure items during their Jan. 5, 2026 regular meeting, voting to fund a well pump replacement, finalize a tax-foreclosed property sale and to postpone action on a proposed recreational-vehicle park ordinance until their next session.
The board authorized a budget amendment of $80,415 to replace the pump, column and shaft at the Davis well after an inspection identified bearing vibration in the motor assembly, Elliot Thomas of the county water department told commissioners. "This pump was set at 220 feet deep," Thomas said, and he estimated parts would take "2 to 3 weeks" to arrive with about "2 to 3 days" on-site for reinstallation. Commissioners approved the replacement by roll-call vote.
County Attorney Mr. Grady recommended final conveyance of surplus county real estate acquired through tax foreclosure on Bridal Road (parcel ID 3021022). He said the initial offer had been $3,200 and upset bids produced a final high bid of $15,000; foreclosure costs totaled $3,161.88 and the tax value listed was $10,800. The board voted to accept the final bid and proceed with conveyance.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, tax releases and planning requests to set public hearings for Community Development Block Grant-related applications and amendments. When it came to the proposed Recreational Vehicle Park Ordinance, commissioners opened a public hearing, took no public comments and then—citing two absent commissioners on a related planning item—moved to table adoption. Chairman Buicker said the ordinance "will be considered at our next meeting."
The meeting record shows votes on these items were taken by roll call with the present commissioners voting in favor; Commissioner Smith was absent following recent surgery. The board also filled one library-board seat by acclamation and adjourned after brief commissioner reports.
