Mill Valley reports rise in arrests and traffic enforcement in Q2; no fatalities reported

At the Aug. 11 council meeting, the Police Governance Committee presented a second‑quarter report showing increases in several enforcement categories.
According to the report, total arrests rose to 56 (from 48 in Q1), driven mainly by increases in adult misdemeanors and a noted rise in DUI enforcement, which produced 14 DUI arrests (up from 9). Traffic enforcement also produced a record 104 speeding violations, and the city recorded 42 accidents (up from 28) with 20 persons injured; staff tied the higher counts to increased service calls and targeted enforcement activities.
The report noted positive measures as well: community policing activities rose and there were no officer injuries or complaints reported in the first two quarters of 2025. Council members requested follow‑up on technology the department plans to deploy for investigations.
The council received the report and discussed next steps on enforcement and public education; staff said increased enforcement is expected to continue through the summer months.
