At the Dec. 8 meeting the City Council nominated and voted to appoint Vice Mayor Max Perret as mayor and Caroline Joachim as vice mayor. Both were sworn in and took the oath of office before the council and attendees.
Max Perret, newly sworn as mayor, outlined a set of priorities for 2026 focused on community support and climate-conscious infrastructure. He said he plans a public-private initiative, working title "MV Support," to coordinate businesses, nonprofits, faith groups and volunteers with city services and to create a single point of contact for volunteering and resource information. "This initiative will seek to bring together the business community, the faith community, the nonprofit community, and our city's government," he said.
Perret also pledged regular public engagement: "Every month in 2026, I commit to hold office hours ... throughout our community," he said. Policy priorities he mentioned included placing a municipal services tax renewal on the November ballot, bringing a green low-carbon concrete policy to council in Q1 modeled on the County of Marin policy, and continuing an 18-month sea-level rise planning process. He also proposed a downtown farmers market and weekly community vitality programming.
The council concluded the nomination and swearing-in with applause and moved on to other business.
