Mister Drake, a parks staff member, told the City of Troy Board of Park Commissioners on Jan. 6 that the parks department has "officially moved into our new building at Duke Park," calling the space a functional improvement that will streamline operations.
The move came alongside an update on a planned wetland project near the west edge of Duke Park. Drake said Mister Titterington has signed a land‑use agreement and that staff are "waiting on official documents and mapping" from Donny Knight before presenting final materials to the board for sign‑off.
Why it matters: The new building is intended to centralize operations for Troy parks staff and may affect how the department manages projects and public access to Duke Park. Separately, the Troy Foundation’s grant clears a funding hurdle for a playground safety turf installation that staff said they will put out for bid.
Board members also discussed scheduling an open house and dedication so board and council members can tour the new space. Drake said staff will coordinate a date and invited the board to participate.
What was said: Drake credited Tim Cox and his crew for setting up IT in the new building, saying the crew did a "fantastic job." He said the department has begun contacting designers and planners and "we'll be moving forward with getting the turf in so that we can move forward with the playground project at Duke."
Next steps: Staff will wait for the final mapping and documents from Donny Knight on the wetland project, then return materials to the board for final approval. The parks office will begin the formal bid process for the playground turf once planning and procurement steps are completed.
