Oakwood City Council on Jan. 5 voted unanimously to adopt a resolution endorsing America 250 Ohio, the state commission coordinating events and programs for the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The resolution, read by the mayor, cites the state legislature and governor’s 2021 establishment of America 250 Ohio to plan and encourage statewide commemoration activities and directs the clerk to certify and forward a copy of the resolution upon passage. The resolution also affirms that the council’s actions were taken in an open meeting and references section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code regarding open‑meeting compliance.
The motion to adopt the resolution was seconded and approved by roll call: William Duncan, Steve Byington, Lee Turban, Healy Jackson and Sam Dorf recorded “yes.” The council had no recorded “no” votes or abstentions on the measure.
Council members said the endorsement is intended to encourage local programming and civic engagement tied to the nationwide semi‑quincentennial observance. The clerk was assigned to forward the certified resolution to the municipal legislative delegation and the America 250 Ohio commission as directed in the resolution.
