The Rowan County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 5 presented a county flag and adopted a proclamation honoring Chaplain Michael Taylor for decades of service to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the broader community.

A proclamation read aloud credited Chaplain Taylor with founding the Shield of Badge with Prayer in 1995 and with building a network of prayer partners that, the proclamation said, has extended across North Carolina. The board moved to adopt the proclamation and approved it by voice vote.

Chaplain Taylor addressed the board, thanking commissioners for the recognition and saying he hoped to continue his work. "I love doing what I do," he said. "Thank God for the privilege doing this."

Presiding Commissioner praised Chaplain Taylor’s regular presence at meetings and said the board values his prayers and counsel. The recognition included a certificate of authentication accompanying a presented Rowan County flag.

The proclamation and flag presentation were ceremonial actions adopted by the board during the meeting. No funding or regulatory action was associated with the recognition.
