The task force agreed to pursue a multimodal public-engagement approach to collect community preferences about building configuration, priorities and possible trade-offs.
Speaker 1 recommended running a short online survey (SurveyMonkey preferred over Google Forms to avoid account barriers) and pairing that with listening sessions and targeted outreach to groups less likely to take an opt-in survey. "I generally recommend that we stay away from Google Forms... SurveyMonkey is one that's relatively easy," Speaker 1 said.
Small groups proposed survey topics including priorities (class size, program quality, fiscal responsibility/tax impact), grade-pairing preferences, busing reliance and what would bring open-enrolled families back. Participants recommended translating materials (Spanish and Somali/Iranian were mentioned) and offering phone-based interpreter outreach for low-literacy respondents.
Next steps: staff will draft a short pilot survey, create common talking points/materials for outreach volunteers, translate materials as needed and review survey results at the next meeting on Dec. 10. The task force emphasized using the same core questions across venues to permit aggregation and comparison of results.
