The ALBERT LEA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT school board voted to carry several policy updates and approved a new labor contract for licensed practical nurses.
Director Reebie and other staff presented updates reflecting legislative changes and operational clarifications: policy 5.16 replaces the term "auto injectors" with "delivery systems" to match statute; policy 4.18 adds tribal medical cannabis and comprehensive cannabis resources to the drug-free workplace language; policy 6.21 clarifies reporting requirements under the Literacy and Read Act including how incentive aid and training must be reported; policy 8.02 allows disposition and donation of surplus books to families and qualified charitable organizations. Staff also described policy 507.5 updates on school resource officers and policy 7.22 changes around public-data request timelines.
After review, the board voted to approve the presented policy revisions by voice vote. Staff brought forward a first reading of a field-trip policy (MSBA model 6.10) that would replace a local procedure-focused policy; trustees discussed the meaning of "major magnitude," funding responsibilities for in‑district and out‑of‑district trips, and when overnight or out‑of-state travel should be brought to the board.
On a separate action, the board approved the 2025–2027 master agreement for the licensed practical nurses association, which staff said includes clarifying language and wage increases covering both the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years. The motion to approve the master agreement passed by voice vote.
The approvals will be incorporated into district policy documentation; the field-trip policy will return for a second and final reading at a future meeting.
