The board accepted the amendment by voice vote and then adopted item 11.7 by roll-call vote.
The amendment text presented to the board lists the contractor and price: “Approve Asphalt Surface Enterprises to install an SW Stockmeyer Stobatan 13 millimeter track, color red, for $527,825 with the javelin runway for $32,000 per the proposal. Installation begins 08/23/2025. Furthermore, approved on an as-needed basis to be determined by the administration cement stabilization based on the condition of the existing subsurface at $90,000. Pending approval of the contract by the district solicitor.”
Board members approved the amended option by roll call; the clerk read the roll and multiple members answered in the affirmative. The motion to approve item 11.7 followed a prior discussion and an amendment that changed the color and several cost elements.
During public comment, a resident asked about the difference in price between the previously considered blue/gray option and the chosen red option. The superintendent initially stated the savings were “approximately $15,000.” Later in the meeting, Dr. Moore corrected that earlier figure, saying the price difference is $22,175.
The board chair noted the meeting’s late start was due in part to nearly an hour of discussion focused on fiscal responsibility and review of competing bids for the track project. The district will not finalize the contract until the solicitor has reviewed the agreement.
Next steps: the district staff will proceed with solicitor review and contract processing; installation is slated to begin Aug. 23, 2025, per the amendment language.
