KISKI AREA SD — Contractors told the board June 11 that the intermediate school renovation is advancing on multiple fronts: drywall finishing and painting are underway in classroom areas, ceramic tile deliveries are ready for bathrooms, mechanical and electrical rough‑ins continue, and the reroof is approximately 50% complete.
A construction representative said crews have poured the kitchen slab, started CMU block walls for the kitchen, and are preparing for rooftop-unit installation in August or September. "I would guess they're about 50% complete on the reroof," the representative reported while showing progress photographs.
Staff outlined change orders on the agenda. Brable Plumbing change order #3 covered work already completed to reroute an existing storm line that conflicted with new canopy foundation footings; staff described this as an unforeseen underground condition. Allegheny City Electric change order #6 would add data outlets and wireless access points to improve coverage in the gymnasium, cafeteria and outdoor soccer area; two additional change orders would expand access-control scope with card readers and door position sensors. Board members asked whether the access-control items represented the full project or were partial add‑ons; staff said some related wireless work is provided by district crews and may be added separately, and that one access-control add-on was not on the current agenda for a vote.
Staff said a prime‑contractor work session is scheduled to confirm lead times for items such as casework and bleachers and to improve the schedule. Staff also noted switchgear is a long‑lead item expected to arrive in July. While several change orders were presented for board approval later on the agenda, staff confirmed the access-control add‑on would not be voted on at this meeting unless placed on the agenda before next week.
The board raised standard concerns about long‑lead components and potential for additional unforeseen underground conflicts; staff said the number of change orders typically declines as structural and foundational work completes. No final vote on the change orders was recorded during the June 11 meeting.
