The proposed edits include clearer language for interscholastic and extracurricular definitions to avoid long enumerations of activities, updates to diabetes management protocols, and Title I parent engagement expectations. Administration said the changes are intended to align district practice with recent legal guidance, and legal counsel in the meeting emphasized that many of the edits reflect standard PSBA recommendations.
Board members raised operational questions: whether volunteers and club coaches must complete training similar to SafeSport and what platform is used for training assignments. An administrator replied that the district uses an online platform (referred to in the meeting as Vector Training or 'Safe Schools') and that staff and district coaches are assigned mandated trainings and tests. The director of curriculum outlined proposed new and modified high-school courses—geosciences, African American literature, expanded AP and dual-enrollment offerings and photography updates—and said final stage-1 curriculum documents will be presented for later approval.
Members discussed the timing of course approvals, with some urging earlier final approvals (December) to avoid students signing up for unapproved classes; administrators replied that the current process includes a staged review and that summer curriculum development is common. The district indicated it will return with clarified timelines, fee details for dual-enrollment or college-linked classes, and any necessary implementation information at a subsequent meeting.
