York Suburban board elects president, names Robinson vice president in close roll call

Lois Hancreder was elected president of the York Suburban School Board during the district’s Nov. 24 reorganization meeting, and Richard Robinson was chosen as vice president after a roll-call vote that produced five votes for Robinson and four for Ashley Turner. The board also swore in newly elected directors and approved its 2026 meeting schedule and routine professional-service contracts.
The meeting opened with the pledge and a reminder that public comments are limited to three minutes and addressed to the full board. Administrators read a certificate of election for newly elected directors Danny Hammond, Jim Polanski, Ashley Turner and Steve Whiteley, and administered the oath of office to the new members.
Board members first selected a temporary president from holdover members, nominating and approving Dr. Nicole Hessen to preside over the reorganization. Following nominations, Hancreder was nominated and, after the nominations were closed and processed, the chair announced she was elected president. For vice president, two candidates were nominated and a roll-call vote was completed: the teller announced "5 votes for Mr. Robinson and 4 votes for Mrs. Turner," after which the chair congratulated Robinson.
The board moved and approved the district’s 2026 meeting calendar without recorded opposition. Administration recommended—and the board approved—continuing relationships with district professional service providers: the district solicitor arrangement (listed in the meeting as Saxton and Stump) and the district auditor, Barbara Kane Thornton & Company. Those approvals were made with no recorded votes to the contrary and were treated as unanimous.
The board’s consent agenda included a personnel report that was approved. During discussion on personnel, members highlighted the hiring of a new high-school social worker and welcomed her to the district.
The board president and vice president will preside over planning and policy work through the coming school year; board members and administrators noted the district’s broad responsibilities, including oversight of an approximately $80 million budget.
