Commission approves leadership changes, bills and tax modifiers; schedules follow-ups

Griggs County commissioners used the opening portion of their Jan. 5 meeting to handle routine administration: minutes, leadership roles, bills and tax modifiers.

Nominations and votes: Commissioners nominated and approved Stephanie ("Steph") to serve as chair and Rod to serve as vice chair for 2025. The board approved the December 22 and Dec. 30 minutes and carried a motion to approve the county bills and a bill-resolution that authorizes limited emergency bill payments when regular meeting schedules might otherwise trigger late fees.

Tax modifiers and calendar: Linda (county staff) reported county agricultural assessed-value context — citing a statewide agricultural per-acre average of $7.04 and Griggs County at $7.25 — and recommended keeping the county’s existing modifiers unchanged for 2025. The commission moved, seconded and voted to approve the Griggs County modifiers as presented; Linda also asked the board to set the county board of equalization date, and the commission set it for June 8 during the regular meeting.

Other business: staff noted ongoing items including a flood-plain ordinance under development and required attendance at the North Dakota Department of Agriculture weed forum for ordinance compliance.

Votes at a glance: motions to approve the agenda, minutes, bills, the bill resolution and the Griggs County modifiers were all carried by voice vote during the meeting. The commission adjourned at 10:18 a.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.
