Monroe City presented awards for its second annual Deck the House residential lighting contest. Jody Egan, director of communications, said residents voted between Dec. 15 and Dec. 28 via a QR code and the city's website; a GIS story map accompanied the public voting tour.
Third place was awarded to David Grassley of 476 Hollywood (certificate and a $75 gift card). Second place went to Tammy Van Riper of 711 Cass (certificate and a $150 gift card), who joined the mayor on stage for a photograph; first place was awarded to Ralph Gappas of 902 McDougall, who will also join the mayor at the 2026 Christmas tree-lighting event.
Egan encouraged residents to subscribe to the city's My Monroe e-newsletter and to follow the city’s website and social channels for participation details in future events. Winners thanked the council and expressed appreciation for the event and family support.
