The Housing Authority of Champaign County provided routine operations and finance updates at its monthly meeting, recognizing staff and reporting on community outreach, development projects and property finances.
Staff named Melissa and Angela Malagaia as the November and December "champions of the month," with supervisors praising their teamwork and outreach work. Staff also recounted a Thanksgiving senior feast and volunteer work at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora, noting that 114 boxes of food were packed in a volunteer event.
Development updates included Columbia Place, which staff said was rezoned by the city council on Dec. 3 to allow multifamily use (rezoning was necessary because the area had been designated single‑family), and progress at 209 Central where seven units have completed washer/dryer installations after conversions began Nov. 20.
Finance staff Miguel presented revenue and expense compositions across properties, reporting that Washington Square currently shows stronger revenue margins while other properties under renovation have higher costs. Staff said reserves covered renovation costs and that rents will be increased as units are returned to service. "Washington Square is the property that has more revenues," Miguel said in his report.
The board received the reports and approved the financials by roll call.
