Augusta — The planning commission on Jan. 6 recommended approval of a special exception to permit an EverHome Suites extended-stay hotel at 1060 Claussen Road, where the applicant proposed a four-story building with up to 120 guest rooms and associated parking and amenities.
Staff said extended-stay hotels are a permitted special-exception use in B-2 zones if they meet specified criteria. The concept plan showed no direct vehicular access to individual guestrooms, rooms meeting the minimum 280-square-foot requirement, and management-staffing measures; staff noted the conceptual plan did not include full buffer and landscaping detail and required a preliminary plan for consideration. Engineering flagged detention as a requirement if existing detention could not be proven.
Lauren Garen, a civil engineer with Thomas and Hutton, described the project and confirmed site design work is underway. Staff recommended approval with conditions: compliance with the referenced zoning section, building limited to four stories and no more than 120 guest rooms, compliance with the Augusta tree ordinance, and compliance with city development standards.
The commission voted to approve the special exception with those staff recommendations; the recommendation will be forwarded to the full Augusta Commission on Jan. 20.
