Denison names William Bearden employee of the year; Finance Division is team of the year

The Denison City Council recognized municipal staff achievements at its Jan. 5 meeting, naming William Bearden the city's 2025 Employee of the Year and awarding the Finance Division the 2025 Team of the Year.
Public Works Director Ronnie Bates introduced William Bearden, noting he stepped into a critical leadership role at the city's treatment plant after the previous superintendent resigned and that Bearden maintained operations while taking on supervisory responsibilities. Bates praised Bearden's professionalism, problem‑solving skills and commitment to teamwork.
Assistant City Manager Renee Wagner presented the Team of the Year award to the Finance Division, led by Finance Director Laurie Alcebaugh and including Amber Pilcher, Zara Taylor, Orlando Macedo, Amy Gates and Julie Hanks. Wagner said the finance team worked through a particularly challenging budget cycle, repeatedly running scenarios and ultimately delivering a balanced budget on time.
Mayor and council members expressed appreciation for city staff and applauded the award recipients.
