Oshkosh Plan Commission backs school expansion and industrial storage, allows after‑the‑fact sign placement 7–2

The Oshkosh City Plan Commission on Jan. 6 recommended several land‑use actions including a comprehensive plan amendment for a property owned by Valley Christian School, conditional‑use permits for an outdoor equipment storage area and school additions, and a setback reduction for a newly installed ground sign.

Staff told the commission the petitioner seeking the comprehensive plan map amendment represents roughly an 8‑acre parcel south of Ickstead Road and east of Vinland Street owned by Valley Christian School and that changing the site from ‘light density residential’ to ‘mixed use’ would make it consistent with zoning districts that allow institutional uses. Devin Winter of Xcel Engineering, speaking for the applicant, said the request was intended to combine parcels and is the first step toward constructing a private school. The commission voted 9–0 to recommend approval of the amendment and adopt staff findings.
