Board hears Green Tier Legacy Communities update; DNR score sheet metrics due in March

On Jan. 5 the board received an update on 2025 activity with Green Tier Legacy Communities (GTLC), including the program’s quarterly meetings, thematic webinars and an updated annual score sheet released in 2023. The revised score sheet requires municipalities to report metrics across categories such as energy and emissions, transportation, land use, water quality and conservation, solid waste, and health and equity.
Board members discussed outreach to other city departments to collect 2024 baseline metrics and noted that if a metric cannot be reported the community must explain the gap or describe steps to obtain the data. Submitting the score sheet to the DNR database by March could position Oshkosh for priority consideration for certain DNR grants and opportunities, and members said they will request data from appropriate departments to meet the reporting deadline.
Members also noted GTLC networking benefits—sharing sustainable strategies, urban-tree efforts and DNR tools for businesses—and discussed potential alignment between the GTLC metrics and the city’s comprehensive sustainability plan reporting.
