The Lawrence City Common Council elected Zach Kramer as council president and Terrell Giles as council vice president during its organizational meeting. An unnamed councilor nominated Kramer "I like to nominate Zach Kramer," and the council voted to elect him, after which the presiding officer said, "Congratulations, Zach Kramer."
The council also elected Terrell Giles as vice president after a nomination and second; a speaker confirmed, "will be Giles to the seat of vice president." The presiding officer announced the confirmations during the meeting.
The council approved the minutes of the regular meeting of Dec. 17, 2025; Councilor Tyrell (Terrell) Giles moved the approval with a second from Christie Crown, and the presiding officer said, "Let the record reflect that we have unanimous decision to pass the approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of 12/17/2025." The council likewise approved the minutes of the special meeting of Dec. 29, 2025, on a motion by Councilor Freeman and second by Carlos Jennings.
The council opened the floor for comments and noted that printed agendas were available and that citizens wishing to speak should sign in; no citizens signed up and the meeting was adjourned.
The meeting included brief recognitions: a councilor thanked Councilor Betty Robinson for filling in as president during prior months, and another councilor recognized Councilor Chavis for 10 years of service.
