Council honors bystander who used park AED and accepts $7,325 in park donations and scholarships

At its Jan. 6 meeting Eden Prairie council and staff publicly recognized a bystander who assisted in the use of a recently installed AED at Miller Park and presented the City of Eden Prairie letter of recognition and challenge coins.
Fire and police staff described the Sept. 27, 2025 incident in which bystanders and emergency responders used an AED and provided CPR after a pickleball player collapsed. The presentation credited the recent placement of park AEDs (funded in part by the Eden Prairie Alliance) and staff and bystander actions that together produced a successful outcome. Council and staff presented the recognition to Sundari (first full reference later in the packet as Sundari Sangdara) and acknowledged Rory Bakke’s recovery and diagnosis of ARVC.
Parks and Recreation Director Amy Markle announced the first Camp Counselor Impact Scholarship (funded by an anonymous Eden Prairie Foundation donor) and named recipients Dylan Curry (present) and Lily Longinger (not present). Markle also read a list of fourth‑quarter donations to support parks and Harvest to Halloween programming, totaling $7,325.
The council moved to accept the donations and congratulate recipients. Staff encouraged camp staff and counselors to apply for the continuing scholarship program in 2026.
