Orland Park approves exterior updates for Old Orland Library

The Orland Park Planning Commission on Jan. 6 unanimously approved a certificate of appropriateness for exterior renovations at the Old Orland Library, case number 20250708.

Staff recommended use of James Hardie siding in a darker tone and wood or painted-metal window frames consistent with historic-district guidelines. Petitioner Rafael Rosales (Rosales Roofing) was present and discussed color choices; staff noted one proposed color ("watering can") would not be considered historically appropriate and advised the owner to adopt the richer espresso tone discussed in staff materials. The commission’s approval is conditioned on compliance with the staff report and the requirement that windows use wood or painted-metal frames under code section 6-209 F3A2.

Motion and next steps: Commissioner Schuessler moved to approve staff’s recommendation; Commissioner Paul seconded. The vote was unanimous. Applicant to finalize color and submit standard permitting documents for building/roofing work in accordance with the certificate of appropriateness.
