Facilities update: VRF HVAC nearing completion; safety audit finds mostly minor hazards

Nolan Till, building and maintenance director (special projects), updated the board on the county’s VRF (variable refrigerant flow) HVAC project, saying installation at the Administration Building, County Courthouse, Attorney’s Building and library is largely concluded. The remaining work is programming thermostats and completing a final punch list; contractors agreed to quarterly reviews and staff training for maintenance personnel.
Till also summarized a Kansas Department of Labor safety audit (phase 1) completed Dec. 17; auditors identified about 30 hazards, many of which Till characterized as minor (expired first aid kits, AED check documentation, missing guards on kitchen mixing bowl, extension cord issues). County staff have 60 days to correct items and will coordinate remediation across facilities; phase 2 of the audit will follow around May and will include additional departments.
Commissioners thanked staff and asked follow‑up questions about courthouse sound system responsibility and elevator parts procurement; Till said he would follow up with appropriate contacts.
