The Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7 approved a resolution appointing Deanna Aspidon as the county's new appraiser.
County staff said Aspidon has worked in the appraiser's office since 1998 in roles including GIS technician and appraiser and holds MAS designations from the International Association of Assessing Officers. Kelly Arnold, the county clerk, administered the oath following the board's unanimous vote.
Commissioners praised both Aspidon and interim appraiser Brent Shelton for stabilizing the department during the transition. "You came with a plan and you have a plan," Chairman Beatty said, noting the commission expects improved customer service and modernization in the appraisal office. Commissioner Howe thanked Shelton for stepping into the role interim and said he had been "incredibly impressed" with Aspidon's interview and background.
Aspidon said she is "looking forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of Sedgwick County," thanked staff and noted she will welcome suggestions to improve office operations. Commissioners said they look forward to quarterly updates and will support any tools and resources the office identifies during upcoming budget cycles.
The appointment was taken as Item M on the agenda; the board voted to adopt the resolution and authorized the clerk to administer the oath.
