Council approves firefighter physicals funding, Springbrook software contract, utility-easement abandonment and meeting date changes

The Hewitt City Council on Jan. 5 approved several actions in its regular session.
Firefighter physicals: Council authorized the use of Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TFMAS) funds not to exceed $25,000 to provide annual physical examinations and required screenings for the fire department tied to provisions of House Bill 198. The motion to authorize the expenditure was made by a council member, seconded, and approved 6–0.
Software purchase: Council approved the purchase of Springbrook Cirrus (express bill pay and ERP platform) for $259,650 and authorized the city manager to enter a three-year implementation contract. Council discussed an estimated $165,000 professional-services line item for implementation and confirmed any material increases would return to council for approval; the contract and motion passed 6–0.
Easement abandonment: Council approved ordinance 2026-01 to abandon a 10-foot public-utility easement along the rear property line of 108 Longwood Circle and authorized the city manager to execute and record the necessary documents. Public comment included a homeowner who identified himself and offered to answer questions; the ordinance passed 6–0.
Meeting schedule: Council voted to move its next meeting to Tuesday, Jan. 20, and the February meeting to Monday, Feb. 9, to avoid back-to-back weekly meetings; the change passed 6–0.
Procedural notes: Council earlier approved the Dec. 8, 2025 special-meeting minutes and accepted financial statements for period ending Nov. 30, 2025. All recorded motions in the meeting passed unanimously by a 6–0 tally where votes were recorded.
