Chair Shanti Landon opened her first meeting as chair of the Placer County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 6, 2026, urging colleagues to “assume the best in other people” and focus on common-ground priorities.
“Local government really has to be different,” Landon said in her inaugural remarks, adding that Placer County “works best when we focus on common ground and shared responsibility.” She introduced mayors, faith leaders and county elected officials who joined the dais to mark the leadership transition.
Landon listed routine priorities—maintaining roads, strong schools, safe neighborhoods and protected open space—and framed a tone of “respect, humility and kindness” for the board’s work in 2026. The board moved to select Landon as chair and Supervisor Gustafson as vice chair in a motion that carried by voice vote.
The brief ceremony included a handoff of the gavel and a photo opportunity with invited community leaders. The chair's remarks were followed by regular agenda business and a public hearing schedule that included a major Placer Vineyards development item later in the meeting.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026.
