Chief Hawkins, appearing as a department head at the Jan. 5 council meeting, announced a public open house on the Fort Vanhorn grade crossing scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Hawkins said the project team will present three options — possibly in an interactive format — and that residents within a half‑mile radius were contacted. He said the city will publicize the event via the police app and the city website.
Earlier in the meeting Councilman Benedetti said he had received notice of a Dec. 8 public meeting but had not received mail for a Jan. 14 meeting concerning M‑85. He asked staff to verify notification procedures and explore running the meeting broadcast on the city cable channel; staff cautioned that MDOT (the state transportation department) may have rules that govern broadcasting and virtual attendance for their meetings.
Council asked staff to follow up on outreach and notification procedures so residents have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming engagements regarding the grade crossing and related transportation planning.
