The Ad Hoc Housing Chapter Update Committee reported progress on a draft housing priorities document at the Jan. 5 Village Board meeting.
Committee members said the draft sets six priorities: diversify housing stock (townhomes, condominiums, missing-middle rentals, small-format single-family, accessory dwelling units and cottage courts); increase overall supply of in-demand housing types; increase supply of housing affordable to low- and moderate-income households including local workforce and seniors; support development and preservation of affordable single-family homes for first-time homebuyers and young families; increase community awareness and education about the housing shortage and affordability; and expand senior housing options (independent living, assisted living, affordable senior housing and aging-in-place designs).
The committee said it will use its next meeting to translate priorities into concrete action items and return a draft to the full board. Trustees asked staff to continue communicating these priorities to prospective developers and to track whether developer proposals align with the agreed priorities.
