The Village Board on Jan. 5 approved the Cottage Grove Fire Department’s 2026 festival permit, including a revised carnival operator and an adjusted parking plan to reduce conflicts with local users.
Fire Department volunteer Kevin presented the festival schedule: carnival rides, a beer tent and music, an old-timers event, a parade, a car show, and other recurring attractions. Because the carnival operator’s availability changed, the festival dates were moved up one weekend to June 11–14. Kevin said he contacted several carnival operators and secured a larger, state-fair sized operator for the earlier weekend.
Discussion focused on parking logistics and on accommodating local users such as the Miracle League and high-school soccer tryouts. Kevin and staff outlined a plan to reserve stalls for Miracle League participants, use Bakken Park overflow parking, and set up cones and signage; staff said they can set up overflow parking by Wednesday morning to avoid conflicts on Monday and Tuesday and allow Miracle League to use fields earlier in the week.
Trustees amended the permit to specify Wednesday morning as the setup time for overflow parking and to give preferential access for Miracle League participants during designated hours. The amended permit passed by voice vote.
