Clay Davis chosen chair; James Dutton elected vice chair of Spalding County Commission

Clay Davis was elected chair of the Spalding County Board of Commissioners for calendar year 2026 at the board's Jan. 5 meeting. After a nomination from the floor, the commissioners closed nominations and voted unanimously to install Davis.
The commission then opened nominations for vice chair. Davis nominated Commissioner James Dutton; the motion received a second and passed on a unanimous voice vote. The board announced the results and returned to regular business.
The elections were procedural and part of the board's annual organization. No contested nominations were recorded during the process. The board next moved into appointment of county officials and committee designations for the year.
