Apopka DRC reviews three MLK weekend events at amphitheater and parade routing

A Leach Law Firm representative said the firm plans a free concert at the Apopka Amphitheater on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., adding, “They'll be about 1000 people.” The organizer said alcohol will be served and the event will use all entry gates; Apopka Police Department coverage (APD) will provide security rather than a private firm. Community development recommended approval and other departments registered no objections on the record.
T Dogs Big Dreams Charity told the committee it plans an R&B/Southern Soul Picnic Fest at the same amphitheater on Jan. 31 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; the organizer said, “They're expecting about 2,000.” The applicant said private security and off-duty officers are confirmed, and the setup will include 10-by-10 tents, food trucks and stage production.
The South Apopka Ministerial Alliance described the annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade set for Monday, Jan. 20, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with staging at the Apopka Community Center. Organizers said last year’s parade included about 80–90 entries and that they expect a similar turnout; “They're expecting about 1000 people, no alcohol,” a representative said. The group intends to request side-street closures along Marvin C. Sanders Avenue; the committee noted street closures require city council approval.
No formal votes took place; staff directed organizers to continue coordinating with police and public works on logistics and traffic control. The special-events approvals will proceed through any additional administrative steps required before the events.
