The Gardner City council re‑elected its officers at a reorganizational meeting on Jan. 5, continuing the current leadership for another term.
Ron Dometka was nominated and approved for the chair position by a voice vote after nominations were closed. Paul Leone was nominated and approved to remain vice chair; Terry Hillman was nominated and approved as treasurer; and Kathy O'Brien was nominated and approved to continue as secretary. At each step the board closed nominations and carried the motion by voice vote with multiple members responding "Aye." A motion to accept the prior meeting minutes was also carried by voice vote.
The reorganization follows a change in the city ordinance that moved the annual reorganization meeting to January rather than May. During the session members also moved to appoint Michael Ellis to a CEO designation for the council; speakers clarified the distinction between a CEO appointment and the mayor's authority on director appointments before advancing the motion.
The votes recorded in the meeting were conducted by voice; no roll-call tallies were entered in the meeting transcript. The board did not record any opposition on the motions noted in the public transcript.
Next procedural steps: the council scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
