The Koochiching County Board approved change orders for the jury room remodel during its Jan. 6 meeting.
Court administration and the project oversight committee recommended several additions: a badge reader on the courtroom’s back door ($5,175) to allow secure badge access for staff and inmates’ escorts; a glass partition at the court recorder’s desk ($4,608.45) that court staff agreed to reimburse 100%; and cabling to connect the jury room to the court administration IT rack (additional cost). The change‑order total presented was $10,317.45, which staff said would be reduced to $5,709 after the court’s reimbursement.
Staff reminded the board that remodel costs could not be charged to the jail bond and would need to be covered by department capital or contingency funds if not reimbursed. The board voted to approve the change orders as recommended by the project oversight committee.
Next steps include executing the change order work and recording the court reimbursement to the county’s capital accounting.
