Koochiching County board elects chair, approves organizational business

Ricky Roach was elected chair of the Koochiching County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6, 2026, and Bill Erickson was elected vice chair, the board confirmed during its annual organizational meeting.
The board approved the meeting agenda and accepted minutes from Oct. 14 and Dec. 16, 2025. It ratified year‑end payments and payroll totals, which staff summarized at $1,223,093.24 for regular payroll and $371,383.80 for ACH payments, for a combined total of $1,594,477.04.
County commissioners also set the county’s optional mileage reimbursement rate for 2026 at 72.5¢ per mile for business use (a 2.5¢ increase from 2025) and a reduced county reimbursement rate of 61.63% when county vehicles are available. The board authorized continuing publication of legal notices in the Rainy Lake Gazette for 2026 and maintaining supplemental publication in the Bear Country Chronicles to reach southern parts of the county.
The meeting included routine acknowledgments and consent‑agenda items. There were no public comments at the meeting and the board adjourned after completing the scheduled business.
The board’s next procedural step on outstanding items is to return for regular agenda items later this year; no contested items were postponed during the organizational session.
