At the Jan. 6 Jackson County Board of Supervisors meeting, county engineer Jaden Shekel asked the board to set public hearings for two locally-led bridge replacement projects and to approve interagency documents for a separate BUILD grant application.
Shekel told the board the county intends to release plans and specs for a bridge replacement on 458th Avenue and recommended a tentative letting date of Feb. 26; supervisors set a public hearing on the plans and specs for Feb. 10, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. The engineer then proposed a second locally-led bridge replacement (17th Street) with a hearing set for Feb. 10 at 9:05 a.m. after timing discussion.
Shekel also presented a 28E interagency agreement among five counties for a BUILD grant application for rehabilitation of 395th Avenue and asked the board to approve a related resolution and a letter of support for the application. The board approved the interagency agreement and adopted Resolution 1160-01-06-2026 to provide a letter of support for the 395th Avenue construction project.
Other infrastructure notes: Shekel said the Moorhead bridge final repair design was completed and would be turned over to staff to finish repairs, and he reminded residents to use city-provided recycling bins after a holiday pickup caused litter at a county shop.
The board recorded no contested votes on these items; staff will publish hearing notices and proceed with procurement and grant submittal steps as required.
