The New York State Senate convened on Jan. 6, 2026, and adopted a concurrent resolution to formally adjourn the 2025 legislative session. Senator Stewart Cousins moved to substitute a senate concurrent resolution (transcript: '13 12') identical to an assembly concurrent resolution (transcript: '8 23'), and the presiding officer called for the ayes; the resolution was adopted by voice and the clerk recorded that "The 2025 legislative session is adjourned."
The body also acted on organizational business. The secretary read Resolution 1307 directing the temporary president to appoint a committee of two to inform the governor that the Senate is organized and ready to proceed; the resolution was adopted and Senators Byno and Chan were appointed to that committee. The secretary then read Resolution 1306 directing a committee of two to inform the Assembly that the Senate is assembled; the resolution was adopted and Senators Ryan and White were appointed for that duty. Finally, the Senate agreed to adjourn until Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at 3 p.m., with the intervening days designated legislative days.
