Warren Township to pilot flexible classroom furniture in 20 rooms after board discussion

District staff presented plans for a pilot to outfit about 20 classrooms (10 at each campus) with flexible, 21st‑century furniture to support collaboration and movement. The pilot will set up two classrooms per campus for teacher and student trial; one pilot classroom will test chairs and desks while another will test tables and different chair types. Staff emphasized interchangeability to allow movement of furniture between rooms if needed.
Board members asked about subject differences (science labs may be unsuitable), pilot selection (principals will choose classrooms), weight limits and durability. Administrators said they ordered a set of sample furniture for trial use and will survey teachers and students after trials to inform final purchases planned for summer. Staff also noted some items (notably certain soft seating options) will not be ordered at this stage and that the district is mindful of manufacturer lead times and parts availability.
The board encouraged piloting, teacher and student feedback, and consideration of maintenance and long‑term replacement parts when selecting vendors.
