Officials said the Chandler Police Department has attained full staffing of its 348 budgeted sworn positions and related roles and finished 2025 in an overhire status after a multi-year recruitment effort; the chief credited hiring and retention improvements following peak vacancies in 2023.
City officials on Jan. 5 celebrated a milestone for the Chandler Police Department, saying the department has reached full staffing of its 348 budgeted sworn positions and related roles.
Assistant city management introduced a short video and asked Chief Chapman to make remarks. Chief Chapman thanked the recruitment and hiring teams, said ‘‘In the history of the Chandler Police Department, we've never been into an overhire status that we finished in 2025,’’ and credited improved hiring efficiency and outreach for the result.
Chief Chapman also said the department had experienced significant vacancies in prior years — ‘‘at its peak in 2023, the department experienced over 35 sworn officer vacancies’’ — and that staffing gains include dispatch, detention officers and police aides. Officials said the council’s staffing priorities, enhanced recruitment and marketing and a focus on retention contributed to the milestone.
Council and staff staged a short recognition and a group photo. Officials described the development as a positive step for public safety resourcing and said they would continue recruitment and retention efforts.
