The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday to adopt the chair’s recommended 2026 committee assignments after amending the list to remove the Red Bud Fire Safe Council from the board’s formal committees document.

County Counsel moved that the board adopt the recommended assignments “as presented to your Board with the committee assignment list… as amended with the amendments laid out by your board in the discussion,” and the motion was offered, seconded and approved 5–0.

The board’s discussion centered on whether recently formed local fire-safe groups should appear on the county’s official committee roster. Supervisor Sabatier said the Red Bud Fire Safe Council was started locally and that, while board members helped get it started, it should be run by community members rather than listed as a mandatory Board committee. An unnamed supervisor and Supervisor Pyszka concurred.

The board also addressed two vacancies on standing advisory panels. Supervisor Sabatier noted a vacancy on the law library board of trustees that he said should be assigned to Chair Rasmussen. The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health advisory board also has a vacant supervisor seat; the board discussed timing and meeting logistics and indicated the advisory board’s chair prefers a supervisor rather than a designee.

Samantha Bond, chair of the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health advisory board, told supervisors the advisory board’s bylaws “do not allow for an alternate” at present but said the bylaws will be reviewed this week; she thanked the board for appointing a supervisor to ensure representation.

Supervisor Pyszka volunteered to serve as an alternate for the maternal committee subject to the committee’s bylaws and any necessary bylaw updates. The board directed staff and county counsel to confirm whether alternates are permitted under the advisory board’s current rules and to return with any needed adjustments.

The motion to adopt the amended committee list passed without opposition, and the board closed the item.
