The board voted 5-0 to approve an agreement to buy just over 11 acres north of the Eastlake Landfill in Clear Lake, and adopted a resolution authorizing recordation of a grant deed. Public Services Director Lars Ewing said the acquisition is a phase of a long-planned landfill expansion.
The Lake County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement on Jan. 6 to purchase a little more than 11 acres adjacent to the Eastlake Landfill in the Clear Lake area as a future expansion parcel. Public Services Director Lars Ewing told the board the county completed phase one of the expansion and that the newly acquired property would provide an estimated five years of additional site life for future phases.
Ewing said the county first authorized conceptual negotiation of the acquisition in 2021 and has since worked with the landowners to reach a purchase agreement and associated resolution for recordation of the grant deed. He described the expansion as phased, with the final phase projected 8 to 10 years out.
The board asked questions for clarification and heard no public opposition. Supervisor Sabatier thanked staff for detail on which parcel pieces were included and their purpose. Supervisor Owen moved to approve the agreement and authorize the chair to sign; the motion carried 5-0. The board also offered and adopted the resolution for recordation and thanked Public Services staff for their work.
The county will proceed to record the grant deed and move forward with the purchase as approved by the board.
