Council appoints Tom Stanley to Parks & Recreation Board; public works unveils truck-naming contest

The City Council appointed Thomas (Tom) Stanley on Jan. 6 to serve on the Parks and Recreation Board for the unexpired term ending Oct. 31, 2027. The appointment was moved, seconded and approved 6-0 after the council liaison and staff described Stanley’s recreation experience and qualifications.
Public works staff reported that the new truck and plow approved Nov. 11 arrived Dec. 15; crews completed final setup and operator training, and the approved spreader is expected by month-end. Staff said the vehicle is ready for winter operations. Public works and MarCom are running a naming contest that will invite students from participating schools to propose names, produce a ballot, and allow community voting; the winning name will be unveiled with a photo event and outreach posted on the city’s public works webpage.
Councilmembers and members of the public praised the rapid appointment to avoid a long-standing vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Board and expressed appreciation for community engagement in the truck-naming contest.
