County Manager (Speaker 9) updated the board on three county items during the Jan. 5 meeting.
Demolition and abatement work has begun at the Holly property, Speaker 9 said, and staff expect to issue a request for proposals for design and master-planning services "shortly." "Pleased with the movement forward there," Speaker 9 said, and noted the county anticipates further procurement for site design.
Second, county staff and commissioners met with representatives of the Golden Leaf Foundation and the NCDOT Aviation Division to discuss potential improvements at the Henderson-Oxford Airport. Speaker 9 said the discussions seemed hopeful and that the county will watch for possible grant opportunities or project support.
Finally, Speaker 9 said the county has been responding to a high volume of public-records requests and reminded the public that much information is posted on the county website, while the county continues to respond to requests as staff capacity allows.
Speakers during the manager's report (Speaker 4 and others) echoed appreciation for staff work on the Holly site and for the outreach to grant and aviation partners. No firm project budgets or grant awards were announced at the meeting; Speaker 9 said staff will keep the board informed as procurement and grant conversations progress.
