Granville County commissioners approved several appointments and committee assignments during their Jan. 5 meeting.
Appointments approved included the opioid advisory committee slate, which Speaker 2 recommended be handled as a single slate and the board approved by voice vote. For planning-board representation, Speaker 2 nominated AP Kern III for the City of Oxford Planning Board ETJ seat; Speaker 1 announced AP Kern’s appointment after a second and voice vote.
The board also approved a slate of reappointments to the Tourism Development Authority, including a reappointment identified in the record as "TJ." Speaker 8 moved to approve the TDA slate and Speaker 4 seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
Separately, Speaker 4 proposed increasing the county’s representation on the county fire commission by adding a second commissioner as a nonvoting liaison to provide additional perspective and feedback to that taxing authority. Speaker 10 confirmed the position would be a nonvoting liaison. The board approved adding Commissioner Griffin to serve alongside the current commissioner as a nonvoting liaison to the fire commission.
The board then approved the full slate of 2026 board, committee and liaison assignments with the addition of the fire commission liaison.
Records: motions and appointments were taken by voice vote with the presiding officer announcing, "Ayes have it." Individual roll-call vote tallies were not recorded in the transcript for these items.
