Summary
The Planning Board adopted an amended 2026 meeting schedule after a scheduling conflict with the Board of Adjustment and Appeals; staff noted they will likely move a meeting location for community access and that a 30,000-square-foot lot ordinance will be discussed at the Jan. 15 meeting.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Board on Dec. 18 adopted an amended 2026 meeting schedule after staff identified conflicts with the Clerk’s Office calendar and a Board of Adjustment and Appeals hearing.
Planning officer Fred Wagner explained the conflict and said the board considered moving one meeting to a Wednesday or holding a meeting in a location closer to affected communities (for example, a fire station or library) to reduce travel for attendees. Wagner told the board that state timelines require planning authorities to act on planning actions within 60 days or a petitioner may request automatic approval, which constrains scheduling.
Board member (Speaker 3) moved to accept the amended 2026 schedule as presented; the motion was seconded by Board member (Speaker 5) and the schedule was approved.
Wagner also told the board that the Jan. 15 meeting would include discussion of a 30,000-square-foot lot ordinance, so members should anticipate that additional substantive land-use items will be on that agenda. The board adjourned at 1:24 p.m.
