Lamar County commissioners approve polling-place move, appointments and $2,622 invoice

The Lamar County Commission on Oct. 27, 2025, approved a set of routine items, voting unanimously to move a polling place, make two board appointments and pay a vendor invoice.
An unnamed commissioner proposed moving the Bedford Military Precinct polling location from New Hope Church to Mount Olive Church after requests from residents and poll workers. The commissioner told the board the move would not change precinct boundary lines and said it would require legal notice: "I'll have to do a little advertising in the newspaper," and post notices in the community and at the courthouse. A motion to move the polling place was made and approved by voice vote.
The commission also appointed Don Cole to serve as a voting member representing the county commission and named Jay Mixon as a nonvoting member of the C3 board to replace Al Ebert, who is stepping down. The appointments were made by motion and approved by voice vote.
A bill from Tennessee Valley Youth Services for $2,622 was brought forward and the commission moved to approve payment of the invoice; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board additionally approved the minutes from the previous meeting and completed routine district reports and announcements before adjourning.
The polling-place move will require the advertised notices the commissioner described and coordination with the board of registrars to update the voting location in county systems. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript; the chair reported all four commissioners were present and voice votes on the listed actions were recorded as "Aye."
