The Bay Area Veterans Commission appeared at the Baldwin County Commission meeting Dec. 16 to present winners of its fourth-grade Veterans Day essay contest and to highlight the Parade of Flags program that involves area schools.
Steve Carey introduced volunteers and organizers and announced Baldwin County winners: first place Riley Reeves (Snook Christian Academy), second place Sadie Pilot (Bayside Academy) and third place Olivia Black (Larry Newton Elementary). Students read their essays for the commission, and members of the commission thanked organizers and participants.
Commissioner Gruber, himself a veteran, thanked the students and volunteers for honoring service members and praised the event’s volunteers and sponsors. Commissioners said the county supports the Parade of Flags and encouraged public attendance at the associated luncheon and battleship events.
The presentation closed with certificates and a group photo invitation for students, volunteers and commissioners.
